Nobler is it to own oneself in the wrong than to establish one's right, especially if one be in the right.
It's manifestly absurd to say that Hirsch can have made a mistake about a paper that nobody knew of but himself; or can have tried to help a foreign thief by telling him to fumble in the wrong drawer.
It is very possible that it was not Francois who was wrong in demurring, but you, who are in the wrong in not listening to him.
