If one is forced to act or decide on something. I don't like either solution, but if it comes to the point, I think our best bet is to consolidate the companies into a single entity. I don't mind phone calls, but I prefer texting if it comes to the point.

if/when the time comes when you have to do or decide something: I’m not frightened of flying, but when it comes to the point I’d rather travel by train.
