The tourism industry is dying a death of a thousand cuts. While not nearly so elaborate as John's depiction of Jesus ascending to his cross-high throne and dying a death by exaltation, Mark's Gospel also lends itself to seeing the cross as the ironic throne by which Jesus rises to royal power despite rejection, demonic harassment, and even abandonment by God. |
