The survey of 200 Monroe students, conducted in March 1998, found that 47 percent reported having at least one drink in the previous 30 days. Yet the latter groups typically introduce children to alcohol, while in Irish culture children traditionally do not drink in the home. Shrouding a drink in mystery draws interest that other new drinks lack, said Jennifer Solomon, a soft-drink industry analyst at Salomon Brothers in New York. |
