soldiers who are not believed to be important and who are sent to fight in the most dangerous places where they are likely to die. Inexperienced troops were used as cannon fodder.

Then there's the still-astonishing "moral waiver"--employed to produce more cannon fodder.
It's a sad footnote to our handling of the Iraqi war when the Pentagon can't even keep track of who died and who is still alive to stock our ever-dwindling reserve for cannon fodder.
