1. One's socioeconomic status or background. It was nice to see people from every walk of life come together to raise money for the sick little girl.
2. One's profession. I've always been interested in medicine, but I'm far too squeamish for that walk of life.

walk of life

A trade, profession, or occupation, as in He'll do well in whatever walk of life he chooses. This expression uses walk in the sense of "line of work." [c. 1800]
