win out over (someone or something)

win out over (someone or something)

To defeat or prevail over someone or something, as in a competition, contest, or poll. We had a vote, and my design for the yearbook cover won out over all the others! I'm still in disbelief that our team won out over the reigning champions. No one thought we even stood a chance! I firmly believe that good will always win out over evil in the end.
