where there's a will, there's a way

proverb If one is motivated enough to do something, they will find a way to do it. Don't tell me it's impossible. Where there's a will, there's a way. And we're going to find that way. Overcoming this economic recession won't be easy, but where there's a will, there's a way, and we've never backed down from a challenge before.

This form of the saying was quoted by William Hazlitt in 1822 , but George Herbert recorded a variant as one of his Outlandish Proverbs in 1640 : To him that will, wais are not wanting .
