walk ahead (of someone or something)

To proceed on foot in front (of someone or something). They told us to hang back while the soldiers walked ahead and made sure the area was secure. I'll be walking ahead of the float during the parade. Please don't walk too far ahead of me. I don't want to lose sight of you.

to move on ahead of someone or something on foot. Please walk ahead of me where I can see you. The road was so bad, I had to walk ahead of the car and look for potholes.
