Idioms

type over (something)

type over (something)

1. To place a character or word overtop another with a typewriter. The typewriter didn't move the paper down to the next line, and I ended up typing over several words before I noticed. It's totally illegible now! No one would notice if you typed over the lower-case L with an uppercase I.
2. To delete some written text on a piece of software by entering different text in its place. Ugh, I accidentally highlighted the entire text message I was writing to my friend and typed over the whole dang thing!
