cliché A tradition that continues to be practiced, respected, or adhered to because of long or age-old observance. Sometimes used sarcastically or facetiously. The offering of the first harvest to the gods is a time-honored tradition in this village. On Christmas morning, our family has a time-honored tradition of playing Hungry Hungry Hippos after the presents have been opened.
