throw a/the fight

To lose a match in a combat sport, especially boxing, intentionally. Usually done in order to take advantage of the bets placed on one's odds of winning. I don't care how much money you're offering—I've never thrown a fight in my whole life, and I'm not about to start now! Judging by how easily she got knocked down, a lot of people are speculating that she threw last night's fight. If you don't throw the fight in the third round, the mob will make sure you're wearing a pair of concrete shoes at the bottom of the Hudson!
