Through clenched teeth, as owing to anger, pain, or displeasure. "Hurry up," I said through gritted teeth, as the doctor stitched my leg up without any anesthetic. They way she's been smiling through gritted teeth and acting like everything is OK makes me wonder if she's actually really upset.
