proverb A phrase typically used to explain or justify one's behavior, especially if it is confusing or disturbing to others. A: "I can't believe he cheated on his wife with his co-worker." B: "Well, the heart wants what it wants." I know my parents don't like that I dropped out of school to pursue modeling in New York City, but the heart wants what it wants.
