old-fashioned A phrase used in several reprimands (such as "Who's she, the cat's mother?" and "She's the cat's mother.") given to someone for using the third-person pronoun "she" instead of a proper name. A: "Oh, and she was there too." B: "She's the cat's mother. To whom are you referring, child?"
