Some process, pursuit, activity, etc., will continue into the future, especially in the face of difficulties or setbacks. Often used in reference to music. The economic crisis seemed like it would upend the financial industry, but here we are five years later and the beat goes on. Despite financial troubles in recent years, the beat goes on for the local jazz academy, which has been fostering young musicians for nearly 60 years.
