take (one's) eyes off (of) (someone or something)
1. To stop looking at someone or something. Often used in negative formations. The juxtaposition of colors in the painting was so strange that I couldn't take my eyes off it. I took my eyes off the kids for just a moment, but it was enough time for them to run off on their own into the crowded mall.
2. To no longer be focused or concentrated on someone or something. We are getting so close to the project's completion, so we can't take our eyes off the finish line now. It seems like the team has taken their eyes off the championship, judging by their lackluster performance on Sunday.
