To relieve one of a source of stress or worry; to comfort or calm one. I bet it will take a load off your mind to get this test over and done with, huh? Thanks for explaining what you meant by your comments yesterday. That takes a load off my mind.

Fig. to relieve one's mind of a problem or a worry. (Of is usually retained before pronouns.) I'm glad to hear that. It sure takes a load off of my mind. This will take a load off her mind.
