be stuck for (something)

1. To be unable or find it very difficult to achieve, obtain, devise, or produce something. I was stuck for words when they presented me the award. I used to be able to crank out a new book every year, but lately I've been stuck for ideas. We're just struck for a plan right now, sir. None of us saw this coming.
2. To lack or be deprived of something. Shoot, I'm stuck for cash at the moment—would you mind paying for dinner? Ever since Tom moved to Nebraska, I've been stuck for a tennis partner. I have three teenage sons, so it feels as though my refrigerator is constantly struck for food.
