sticky end

1. An unpleasant death, usually as a result of one's own actions. Primarily heard in UK, Australia. The serial purse snatcher came to a sticky end when he encountered a little old lady trained in karate. You will meet a sticky end if you don't change your reckless ways.
2. science The end of a DNA strand that is able to be connected to another strand as a result of having nucleotide bases that are complimentary to the second strand. The molecular biologist was able to utilize the sticky end of the DNA to join the two strands in the lab.
