stay on guard

To continue to be especially careful or vigilant for dangers or surprises. A possessive adjective can be used between "on" and "guard." We've got to stay on our guard. This city is crawling with pickpockets! That mountain can be notoriously treacherous to climb. I just hope those climbers stay on guard.
