star vehicle

1. A film, TV show, or play that is created to showcase a particular entertainer and emphasize their talents in order to bring them increased recognition and fame. The 2018 remake of a A Star Is Born was something of a star vehicle for Lady Gaga as an actress, earning her Best Actress nominations at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs, just to name a few.
2. By extension, such a project that is designed primarily to profit off a star's existing fame and popularity. A: "This Elvis movie is just awful." B: "Well, it was a star vehicle, not a Greek tragedy. Movie studios just wanted to cash in on his popularity."
