spur of the moment
An impulse characterized by a lack of preparation or consideration. The phrase can be hyphenated and used as a modifier before a noun. You've got to stop making decisions about your business on the spur of the moment like this, or you'll end up running it into the ground! It's totally out my character to take a trip on the spur of the moment, but I just needed to get out of the city for a while. Moving to Europe was something of a spur-of-the-moment decision, but it ended up being the best thing I've ever done!
