see the funny side (of something)
To find a humorous aspect about something that is otherwise difficult, distressing, unfortunate, or unpleasant. My mother always tried to see the funny side of bad situations, even when she was diagnosed with cancer last year. I know you're annoyed that Paul was given the promotion over you, but try and see the funny side—at least now you won't have to listen to the boss wheezing through all those meetings!
