rule of law

The governance of a society or population according to the laws to which all citizens, including legislators, are bound. There is a seductive pleasure in seeing criminals punished by vigilantes, but extrajudicial punishments can have no place in our society. We all have to respect the rule of law, especially those who would seek to enforce it. No one is above the rule of law, Governor, not even you. You cannot simply change or forego the rules to suit your own desires.
