rock star

1. A famous rock-and-roll singer or musician. I started practicing the guitar in our garage, with dreams of one day being a rock star. The rock star can't walk down the street without being thronged by fans.
2. One who is especially successful, famous, and influential in some field or area. She has become something of a rock star in the world of video game development. Any time her name is attached to a project, it generates a huge buzz. After a series of hugely popular TV interviews, the scientist has turned into a bit of a rock star among public health officials.
