ready for (one's) close-up

ready for (one's) close-up

Ready to have one's photograph taken, especially close to one's face. Typically used when one is or feels stylishly dressed or well groomed. The phrase was popularized by the 1950 film Sunset Boulevard. Look at you, all dolled up for school picture day! You're ready for your close-up, all right. Get that camera out of my face, sonny. I'm not ready for my close-up this early in the morning.
