quench (one's) thirst

1. Literally, to drink something when one is thirsty. If you actually want to quench your thirst, you should try drinking water instead of soda.
2. By extension, to satisfy one's need or desire (for something). That movie's hilarious—it'll definitely quench your thirst for a comedy. Having a boyfriend for six months quenched my thirst. I'm ready to be single for a while now! Has the new encyclopedia set quenched your thirst for knowledge?
