To remind one of someone or something. Cold weather like this always puts me in mind of childhood trips to our cabin in the mountains. That actor puts me in mind of John. Don't you think?

Remind one, as in You put me in mind of your grandmother. This idiom was first recorded in 1530. For a synonym see call to mind.
