Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Harass, Don't Pursue

A military policy of the United States from 1994–2011 that barred openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual personnel from serving in the military, but which also barred discrimination against those who kept their sexuality a secret. Commonly shortened as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Just because "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Harass, Don't Pursue" was put in place doesn't mean that subtle forms of discrimination didn't still occur. Because of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Harass, Don't Pursue, my uncle was forced to keep his relationship with his partner a secret for the entirety of his 11 years in the US Army. Did gay members of the military actually feel protected by Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Harass, Don't Pursue, though?

pursue (one's) dreams

To work toward that which one most desires or hopes to do, have, or accomplish in life. I always encourage my students to pursue their dreams because life's too short to settle for less. If you really want to be a screenwriter, why are you working in the mailroom at this dump? Get out of here and go pursue your dreams! Of course I don't want you to move overseas, but I would never deprive you of the opportunity to pursue your dreams!
