pry (someone or something) off of (someone or something)

1. Literally, to remove someone or something from some surface with or as if with the force of a lever. I tried to pry the bolts off of this panel with a crowbar, but they wouldn't budge. I was clinging to the side of the building so tight that the firefighter who came to rescue me had to pry me off of it.

2. By extension, to separate someone from someone else with the use of great physical force. Jake and Elsa were being so gross kissing in the hallway like that, so I went over and pried him off of her. I had to go over and pry fans off of the movie star as he made his way to his car.
