pass (someone or something) off on (someone)
pass (someone or something) off on (someone)
To attempt to misrepresent or disguise someone or something (as a different kind of person or thing) to someone else. There are always guys passing cheap watches off on unsuspecting tourists. They obviously booked us for the wrong room, but they kept trying to pass it off on us like we were the ones who were mistaken.
