missing in action

1. military Unable to be located and therefore unable to be confirmed as alive or dead. The platoon got hit hard, man. Most of the soldiers are missing in action now.

2. Not present or involved in something. The chairman of the board promised to support our efforts, but he's been missing in action thus far, and no one else is taking our work seriously.
