cut out the middleman

To deal directly with someone or some entity, rather than dealing with an intermediary of some kind. We used to have to place our orders through a supplier, but I've made contact with the manufacturer so that we can start cutting out the middleman. I don't understand why we're paying a firm to file the paperwork for us when we can just do it ourselves. Let's cut out the middleman and save a bit of money in the process! Who needs a travel agent in today's day and age? Just cut out the middleman and book your vacation online yourself.
