man is the measure of all things
1. Our knowledge of all things in the world come from human observation and reflection, and thus it is inherently subjective. The phrase is attributed to Ancient Greek philosopher Protagoras. Of course, what I find worthwhile will be at odds with a great many other people. Man is the measure of all things, after all, and so the novel I find inspiring and enlightening might be utterly boring and meaningless to someone else.
2. The only thing of absolute value or authority in the universe is man itself. The tech billionaire is seen by some as something of a megalomaniac with the ardent belief that man is the measure of all things, every other concern be damned.
