make a household name (out) of (someone or something)

To cause a person, product, company, brand, etc., to become widely popular or commonly known among a majority of people. The reliability and affordability of its household appliances has made a household name of the company for over three decades. I knew that winning at the Olympics would change my life, but I didn't realize that it would make a household name out of me!
