1. adverb Impressively well, perhaps unbelievably so. This new software works like magic. I barely had to do anything and the image is perfect. This old car runs like magic! You must have dumped a lot of money into it over the years.
2. adverb By means that defy or seem to defy rational explanation. I remember when video teleconferencing software first hit the mainstream, and suddenly, like magic, you could talk someone on the other side of the world face-to-face. I don't understand how this new food dispenser works at all. You just press a button and like magic a full dinner is served on a plate.
3. adjective Defying or seeming to defy rational explanation. These newfangled smartphones always seem like magic to me. How on earth can so much technology fit into such a tiny device?
