lean over backwards to (do something)
lean over backwards to (do something)
To exert a lot of effort or greatly inconvenience oneself in order to do or accomplish something. Often used to express frustration when one's efforts go unrecognized. I have been leaning over backwards to make sure that you have a wonderful visit, and you don't even care! I'll make sure the entire staff leans over backwards to make the CEO happy while he's visiting our office.
