To know the various clever or ingenious skills, techniques, or methods used by professionals to do something more easily or efficiently. You should ask your uncle to alter your shirt. He used to be a tailor, so he knows the tricks of the trade. My accountant friend knows all the tricks of the trade to pay as few taxes as possible on my income.
