obsolete A person employed to knock on people's doors and wake them up for work. Primarily heard in UK, Ireland. A knocker-upper would use a long pole to tap on apartment windows and wake up the people inside. Considering how Joe sleeps through every alarm, he could use a modern-day knocker-upper!
