kick down the/(one's) door

1. Literally, to force the door of a building open with a kick. The firefighter had to kick down the door to get in and save the children from the burning house. Police surrounded the building and then kicked down the suspect's door.

2. By extension, to make a great and clamorous effort to get something beneficial from one. Once we have a foothold in the market, other companies will be kicking down our doors to get a slice of the action. I'm proud of the novel I wrote, but I'm not holding my breath that a publisher will come kicking down the door to publish it anytime soon.
