intern in (something)

To confine or imprison someone in something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "intern" and "in." How many people were interned in concentration camps during World War II? The current oppressive government has interned activists in prison for their protests. They've interned the prisoners of war in some hidden location we're still searching for.

to detain or imprison a person in something. The government interned the enemy prisoners in the camps for a few months. He was interned in a prison camp during the war.
