To firmly uphold a certain position regarding someone or something. You can try to sway me all you want, but I'm holding the line at 10 PM—that's your curfew. Don't be late. I'm sorry, but we're holding the line at 10 passengers. You'll want to wait over here for the next boat. Unfortunately, management is holding the line at 20 hours a week for all the part-time workers on this project.
