1. To successfully play or sing a note of an especially high frequency. You know I can't hit that high note with this sax—it's a baritone. I've been working with a vocal coach, but I doubt I'll ever be able to hit a high note the way Mariah Carey does. That opera singer hit such a high note that it blew out a window!
2. To achieve a high point of success, acclaim, popularity, etc. She has always been a talented actress, but she has hit a high note in her career with her latest performance. The company hit a high note last quarter, recording its best sales in over 20 years. That author was somewhat well known, yeah, but she really hit a high note when her second book became a bestseller.
