hipster

1. noun An often derogatory term for someone, usually a young person, who has an exactingly constructed, ironic persona and is hyper-focused on not doing what is deemed popular. A: "I swear, I really did like that band before they were cool!" B: "Yeah, OK, you hipster." You just know that hipster with the man bun has got a chromatic harmonica in his knapsack. My mom is convinced that only hipsters support Bernie Sanders.
2. adjective Indicative of these behaviors or tendencies. When I was in grad school, I used to live in a real hipster neighborhood—I still miss the co-op there! You just know that hipster dude with the man-bun has got a chromatic harmonica in his knapsack. She's vegan, right? So she's probably going to make some weird hipster dessert out of chickpeas or something.
