nautical To lean backwards over the side of a sailboat in order to counterbalance tilting. We've got to hike out, otherwise the boat could tip over! Hike out! Hike out! The boat is tilting! It all happened so fast. I was going to have Mike hike out, but then the boat just tipped over!
