a heavy heart

A state of profound dejection, depression, or grief. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved father. I had a heavy heart leaving home, but I knew the move was for the best. It was the right decision to get divorced, but that doesn't mean I don't have a heavy heart about it.

Unhappiness. This expression comes from the Bible. The Book of Proverbs (12:25) states, “Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop.” It remains current.
