To have a sensible, cool-headed mentality that allows one to remain calm and make quick, intelligent decisions. Before fleeing the house, Margaret had the presence of mind to turn off the circuit breaker so that the electrical fire wouldn't spread as quickly. Wow, I can't believe that security guard had the presence of mind to direct the shooter away from the packed auditorium, giving all students a chance to escape. Thank goodness you had the presence of mind to use your voice assistant to call 911 when you couldn't find your phone after the car accident.
