To have one's interest or attention. That suggestion of yours might just become a reality—I do have the ear of the CEO, you know. No, I don't have the ear of the headmaster—she doesn't even know who I am! If you want your song to be played on the radio, you need to have the ear of someone down at the station.

If you have the ear of someone in a position of power or have their ear, they pay great attention to what you say, and often follow your advice. This man has the ear of world leaders. He has the President's ear, especially over environmental policy.
