To be a skilled gardener. Primarily heard in UK, Australia. My mom can keep any plant alive, even ones that I've nearly killed—she seriously has green fingers. John has green fingers, so our garden always looks amazing! I've never had green fingers—everything I try to grow dies!

COMMON If someone has green fingers, they are very good at gardening. My husband has green fingers. Even if you were not born with green fingers you can easily learn a few simple techniques to help you achieve success. Note: You can describe someone who is good at gardening as green-fingered. Even if you're not green-fingered you can put on a stunning show of flowers right through summer and beyond.
